6th World Water Forum
Taking place in Marseille, France from 12th to 17th March 2012 , the 6th World Water Forum is a major event in the international political and environmental agenda. Designed to be the Forum of Solutions, the 6th edition of the World Water Forum aims to generate concrete solutions to issues of access to water and sanitation, in particular through the launch of an online solutions platform.
Presently, more than 1,000 solutions coming from more than 120 countries are already online on the platform of solutions, showing the great mobilization from the actors’ in water community and civil society to improve access to water and sanitation.
Boosted by the attendance of 180 countries, the Forum will be upbeat with more than 800 hours of exchanges and debates, more than 300 sessions dedicated to solutions and about a hundred of parallel conferences and 140 Grassroots & citizenship accredited projects. Over the course of the week, numerous high-level political officials and international key figures will participate in Marseille to discuss water related issues and solutions. Among key figures attending : French President Nicolas Sarkozy, José Manuel Barroso, the King Mohammed VI of Morocco and Mikhaïl Gorbatchev, representative of NGOs and institutions such as Julia Marton Lefèbvre, general director IUCN, or Catarina de Albuquerque, special protactor at the United Nations for the right to water but also leaders of companies, such as Peter Bradeck, CEO of Nestlé or Muhtar Kent, CEO of Coca-Cola.
