NYC Climate Week: Protecting 80% of the Amazonia by 2025

Event Date:
September 22, 2021

The Amazon rainforest is in danger of flipping toward a savanna, due to extractive activities like oil and gas exploitation, development of road infrastructure, and agricultural activity. But we still have time to avert this tipping point before we witness the dieback of this mecca of biodiversity.

We’ll be hosting Indigenous leaders from Coordinating Body of the Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin (COICA), researchers from RAISG (Amazon Geo-Referenced Socio-Environmental Information Network) to present evidence-based solutions and a global call to action to join the movement to protect 80% of the Amazon before 2025.

This webinar brings together a relevant group of panelists to discuss this initiative and contributes to the discussion with an evidence-based analysis about the lands that should become protected or sustainably managed, and the range of solutions at hand to achieve a sustainable pathway for the Amazon, meeting climate goals at the same time.

When: Wednesday, September 22, 2021, from 2-3:30 p.m ET / 11-12:30 p.m PT

Where: Online via Zoom! (click here to RSVP)

Note: This webinar will have simultaneous interpretations in French, Portuguese, English and Spanish.
