Share your science story with Science Writers & Communicators of Canada's Science Communication 101 workshop. Join science communicator and climate educator Ive Velikova to explore principles of effective communication — emphasizing audience engagement and storytelling. You'll gain skills to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences!

Agenda:

  • Know Your Audience: Define audience concepts, discuss diverse audiences and explore techniques for tailored communication. Emphasize the importance of adapting strategies based on the audience.
  • Know Your Goal: Discuss setting clear communication goals, explore types of goals, and introduce frameworks. Provide examples and engage in defining communication goals through interactive activities.
  • Craft Your Story: Highlight storyteller's role, discuss elements of a compelling scientific story, and engage in a hands-on-activity. Share and discuss the participants' stories.
  • Know Your Outlet: Explore various communications outlets, discuss characteristics, and share tips for adaptation. Highlight the role of multimedia, discuss best practices, and provide a quick tutorial on tools.
