Calling all creative writers whose muse is ecology: Contests in Poetry, Nonfiction and Fiction are now open for submissions. This year the grand prize in each genre is $1,000 each, plus $100 for each finalist. Open to new and experienced authors and artists alike. The cost to submit is $20. Deadline is September 6.

The fourth annual Covering Climate Now Journalism Awards, presented with the Columbia Journalism Review, will recognize exemplary climate solutions reporting, effective public engagement and climate inequities coverage. NWF's contest celebrates the power of photography to advance conservation and connect both photographers and viewers with wildlife and the outdoors. Open to amateur and professional photographers. Cash prizes in multiple categories including one for youth aged 13-17. Deadline: Apr 7, 2024.

The 2024 festival is scheduled for Sep 20-27 in Perm, Russia. Documentary filmmakers worldwide may submit new full- or short-length films directed in 2023 or 2024. Entries must reflect the style of documentarian Robert Flaherty and his film "Nanook of the North." Cash prizes. Deadline: May 20.

The National Press Club offers five scholarships in 2024 for students pursuing journalism, high school to graduate studies, three supporting diversity in the field. Deadlines: Feb 18, Apr 10 and 14.

Planet Forward's Storyfest recognizes and rewards the best and most compelling student-told stories illuminating environmental issues and solutions. Winners travel to the Galápagos Islands with Lindblad Expeditions next July to see and report on the environment. Submissions due Feb 10, 2025.

MY EQUATOR Charity Social Support Fund's annual wildlife photo contest is open to photographers worldwide. Cash prizes in each adult category and for photographer of the year. Winners in the young categories receive a glass trophy, a diploma and more. Enter by Mar 31, 2025.
