The Middle East Program will select one Arab, Middle Eastern or North African journalist to spend three months in residence at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., to carry out advanced, policy-oriented research and writing. $5,000 per month stipend. Apply by Jan 15, 2023.

Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) invites professional environmental journalists from low- or middle-income countries to apply for travel grants of up to $2,500 to attend and report from conferences and global summits related to biodiversity issues that are taking place in 2023. Deadline: Jan 6, 2023.

The 2023 conference will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, Sep 19-22, with more than 150 expenses-paid fellowships available to both established and promising journalists in developing and transitioning countries, and for journalists from disenfranchised communities, to participate in-person.

The Council for the Advancement of Science Writing's fellowship (and $15,000 grant) is for an early-career journalist to accompany an oceanographic expedition to Antarctica, Nov 2023-Jan 2024, investigating how rapid glacier melting and associated processes are affecting the chemistry of the world’s oceans. Deadline: Jan 31, 2023.

The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) offers up to $20,000 in scholarships and grants to journalism students every year. The money can go towards paying a number of things, including tuition and fees, internship costs and living expenses. These opportunities have different deadlines, applications and criteria.

GSDF Labs is a mix of online and in-person events on short documentary storytelling, pitching, and solutions journalism. It's designed to support filmmakers and video journalists who are developing short docs, and might consider applying for the Global Short Docs Forum (Dec 13 deadline). All events are free.

Mongabay invites applications for their Spring 2024 internship (Jan 1-Jun 30). Develop your writing and interviewing skills from home by writing six news stories on a variety of conservation and environment topics, with training, mentoring and partial payment (for the final four of the six articles). This part-time, remote, 10-month fellowship program is for early-career science journalists with less than three years of regular professional science writing experience.
