"UN Chief Rebukes Fossil Fuel Industry Supporters As Climate Records Break"

"U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres said Wednesday that countries must confront not just the fossil-fuel industry, but also companies that support efforts to obstruct climate action. The U.N. chief, a longtime critic of oil and gas companies' role in driving climate change, called the industry out for spending billions on "distorting the truth, deceiving the public, and sowing doubt" about climate change, while investing just "a measly 2.5%" of its total capital on clean energy alternatives."

Record Highs Expected To Fall As Southwest US Bakes In Early Heat Wave

"The first heat wave of the season has arrived earlier than usual across much of the U.S. Southwest, with dangerously hot conditions that produced triple-digit temperatures on Tuesday. Forecasters say temperatures are likely to top 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43.3 Celsius) in some areas by Thursday."

DEADLINE: Climate Change Media Partnership COP29 Reporting Fellowship

The CCMP Reporting Fellowship aims to bring up to 20 journalists from low- and middle income countries to report in-person at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov 11-22. Includes airfare, accommodation, meals, travel medical insurance and ground transportation costs. Apply by June 6.

"Human-caused warming has doubled the chances that southern Brazil will experience extreme, multiday downpours like the ones that recently caused disastrous flooding there, a team of scientists said on Monday. The deluges have killed at least 172 people and displaced more than half a million residents from their homes."
