InsideClimate News Wins Scripps Howard Award for Exxon Exposé

An investigative team at InsideClimate News, including SEJ member Lisa Song, won for their series, "Exxon: The Road Not Taken," today (March 8, 2016). The series documented that Exxon's own research confirmed the role of fossil fuels in causing global warming decades ago — although the company's top execs went on to fund denial of climate science and lead efforts to block solutions.

"Greenland’s Melting Is ‘Feeding On Itself,’ Scientists Say"

"A new scientific study released Thursday has delivered yet another burst of bad news about Greenland — the vast northern ice sheet that contains 20 feet of potential sea level rise. The ice sheet is “darkening,” or losing its ability to reflect both visible and invisible radiation, as it melts more and more, the research finds. That means it’s absorbing more of the sun’s energy — which then drives further melting.

Snow-Starved Anchorage Has To Haul Snow In By Train For Iditarod Start

"How weird has Anchorage's weather been this winter? Weird enough that an Alaska Railroad spokesman said Monday that a train will deliver seven rail cars loaded with snow to the state's largest city this week in time for the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race ceremonial start on Saturday."
