"Climate: Big Oil Supports Curbelo Bill — Kind Of"

"Several oil companies have offered praise — but not an explicit endorsement — for the carbon tax bill introduced Monday by Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.).

In a letter to Curbelo sent today, BP PLC, Dutch Royal Shell PLC and DTE Energy Co. called the bill — H.R. 6463 — "an opportunity for both parties to engage in substantive dialogue on the risks and opportunities posed by climate change."

Equinor ASA, PG&E Corp., Dow Chemical Co., Schneider Electric SE and a list of other companies and trade groups have also signed onto the missive.

Some other energy companies have been calling for carbon pricing for years, but the letter is unlikely to assuage critics who say the oil giants do little to actually advance the policy."
