Enviros Ask EPA To Study Drinking Water Pollution From Kewaunee Dairies

"Citing a rash of contaminated wells in Kewaunee County, a coalition of environmental groups on Wednesday petitioned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to use its emergency authority to investigate pollution of groundwater from dairy manure.

The group, a variety of nonprofit or public interest environmental advocacy groups, includes Clean Wisconsin, Midwest Environmental Advocates, Midwest Environmental Defense Center, the Environmental Integrity Project, Clean Water Action Council of Northeastern Wisconsin, and Kewaunee CARES.

They point to manure from animal agriculture as the leading risk to the region’s drinking water supplies and therefore the health of residents, and say state and local authorities have not done enough."
