"Wind, Solar Surpass 10 Percent Of Power Production"

"Wind farms and solar panels generated more than 10 percent of the total monthly electricity in the U.S. for the first time in March, the U.S. Department of Energy reported on Wednesday, up from 7 percent on average in 2016.

Wind power varies widely by state, said the department’s Energy Information Administration. Texas often has its highest wind output in the spring, the EIA said; California, in the summer. Solar output is highest in the summer, regardless of location, because of the greater number of daylight hours. About half of all utility-scale solar plants in the U.S. use sun-tracking technology to improve output.

Wind and solar electricity generation will probably exceed 10 percent of the total again in April, then fall this summer."
