A new data site may offer a starting point for reporters looking into the connections between energy industry money and Congressional action. The "Dirty Energy Money" site put up by Oil Change International allows you to look up campaign donations from energy companies to members of Congress.
The data itself comes from the Center for Responsive Politics and the Federal Elections Commission. Oil Change International is funded by liberal foundations like the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, as well as many individual donations.
You might, for example, look at contributions to members of the new deficit-reduction "Super Congress" from energy companies whose taxpayer subsidies are at stake.
